Winter 2003-2004 Collection
From the spills and frills of fashion week, a designer’s vision board brought to life on the runway and with John Galliano’s 2003-2004 collection, this hammered the nail in the coffin.
Opening the show with a backdrop of “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” Jazz music and neon lights came a military army Karki green 2-piece suits with exaggerated shoulders, crocodile platform shoes and very flamboyant makeup. This collection really encompasses an era of powerful women. A pallet of classic silhouettes with a series of brightly coloured body-hugging garments was a key base tone to this ready to wear collection which brought back a 1940’s post war vibe and hints of the swinging 60’s. The high waisted silk trousers that really elongate the legs and adds a touch of class for what could be worn in the office and out for any evening occasion.
Clinched pencil skirts with drapes of experimental floral prints and silk fabrics and corsets that really accentuated the female physique.
Later, the collection eclipsed into nightwear with lingerie inspired garments, sheer clip-on stockings which offered us a more flesh tone colour palette which shows a sexier side to the collection. Styled with pearl necklaces, satin heels to give off a more sexy-glam look teamed with classic clutch bags and fascinator hair hats and head pieces.
As the show neared its end, we were presented with evening gowns and full-length beautiful skirts and a NOIR evening mourning gown. The showstopper of the collection was the oversized, white coat of fur and layered stitching in which brought Cruella De Ville to life in Galliano’s vision.
Galliano definitely wasn’t afraid to experiment with these flamboyant frills and floral prints to create a totally show stopping collection and must haves for any wardrobe.
